Bloomberg: Airbnb Is Looking to Get into the Long-Term Rental Business

The home sharing service is debating expanding its sublet section to compete with companies like Craigslist.

There’s no doubt that Airbnb has disrupted the hotel industry. Travelers turn to the home sharing app to find a place to stay throughout the duration of their trips. And now, according to Bloomberg, Airbnb is exploring the possibility of taking its model and applying it to home rentals.

Sources close to the company say that Airbnb has asked McKinsey & Co. to research the renting market in order to break into the industry and help people looking to sublet. While the brand currently has a “sublets/temporary” section, this new addition could potentially offer an identify-verified alternative to other renting and sublet services. The service would compete with companies like Craigslist, and add more credibility to Airbnb’s existing sublet offering.
